Our slate waterfalls are made of hand
picked and gathered slate from the
Huron mountains in Michigan's Upper
Peninsula. Each piece is diamond drilled
with a proprietary process that yields
extreme accuracy. This means there is
no visible plumbing. It also means that
there is no glue or sealer used. The
pieces can be rearranged however and as
often as you wish. Many people further
personalise their waterfalls with the
addition of small figurines and realistic
aquatic plants.
The Slate Products, LLC
waterfalls are whisper quiet.
Sixteen different pumps were
tested during the development of
these units. All sixteen were
touted by their manufacturers as
being quiet. Only two of the
pumps met our standards. Of
these, we bought the one with the
better warranty for use in our
products. You
will not hear the
pump running on our units. Only
the quiet and gentle falling of
water.
Maintenance on the waterfalls is a
lesson in simplicity. Just add
water. In dry environs they may
require 1 to 2 quarts per week.
The waterfalls are designed so
that the pumps will not burn out
if the water gets low. The water
stops coming out the top of the
unit and the pump continues to
do its merry thing. We have one
unit that hasn't been shut off
since February of 2004.
The slate waterfalls act as a
humidifier inside the house and a
birdbath when placed outside.
