Our Earthenware Bowls are named High Fired Black Clay
Bowls
after the centuries old Vietnamese  process.

These bowls are individually hand thrown on a kick wheel
by Vietnamese craftsmen. The special black clay is
unique to the river bottoms there and is harvested by the
artisan. The process of High Firing and using this
particular clay makes these bowls among the largest
hand thrown bowls in the world. They are considered to
be the hardest clay bowls made anywhere today. These
bowls commonly withstand over a century of hard use.
The impurities in the mud and the high firing process
means the color varies
(see Photos page) with each bowl.
Nevertheless, all these bowls incorporate a beauty which
is rarely found in the pottery of today. At Slate Products,
LLC the decision was made to use these earthenware
bowls to showcase our product no matter what it took.
Their high cost and expensive shipping are justified by
the rare quality which they exhibit. We have never
regretted our decision.
