Get Ready to Record
Practice - Practice - Practice
(then practice more!)

All studios charge by the hour. That's how they make their money. In the Chips is
no exception. There are many things in the studio which are beyond your
control.
However, how well rehearsed you or your band are is entirely up to you.
Don't come in to the studio without knowing how many leads the song has and
where they are and who plays them. Know which songs you are going to do and
practice them thoroughly. Come in ready for the performance of your life. Come
in rested and excited to do what you love most. (Don't even think about using
substances.) Have water or lemonade handy. (We provide both.) Come in with
two lyric sheets per song. Even if you know the song inside out and backward
like you are supposed to. Everyone else in the studio needs to be on the same
verse, lead, etc. Even if you are recording solo you need to bring in two lyric
sheets for each song.
They should be double spaced and in 14 point font or
larger. Leave plenty of room between lines or in the margins so we can write
notes.
Show up on time and without friends or entourage. You are there to work
and chatting with friends will only cost you more. Remember to wear clothing
which is both quiet and comfortable. You don't want your best take ruined by the
sound of nylon wind pants. (Who wears those anymore??)
Put new strings on
the day before you record
and tune them again before you leave for the studio.
Bring an extra set of strings.
If you have outboard gear then either store your
presets or write them down on paper.
Bring any accessories that you may need.
(Capos and power supplies come to mind.)

The purpose of this diatribe is NOT to nag at you. It is to help get the best
performance for the least amount of time and money. If you are only going to be
organized once all year then let this be the time. You won't regret it.
